Almost all alone, the courageous Elizabethan woman took a stand in the face of tyranny but behind her stalked the hangman. Her husband was exiled and she herself was hunted as she defied a government and sheltered priests. Her fate lay with those she protected and she refused to conform even as she stepped upon the infamous gallows of Tyburn. She is one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales.
